Lyn Murray ’64, calls her Blackburn Society bequest “payback.” Nearly 60 years after her own graduation from Friends’ Central, Lyn and her husband, Jim Dursi, have pledged to gift their estate to FCS. “When I say ‘payback,’ I mean giving back to those who gave to me.”

FCS: What was one meaningful lesson you took with you from your Quaker education?

LM: Wherever you are, you should try to bloom where you’re planted. Whether it’s a neighborhood, a larger community, or a workplace, you need to invest in whatever community is available to you, make your friends there, and contribute something.

FCS: What encourages you about the future of Friends’ Central?

LM: You can feel the commitment to the core values. If you don’t have the foundational commitment, you’re not going to get there. Friends’ Central is always committed and always getting there.

FCS: Why should others consider leaving a legacy to Friends’ Central?

LM: To me, our children are our future. I like to think about Friends’ Central raising the next generations that are educated, community-minded, energetic, and committed to a peaceful future for everyone. Every dollar you can give to Friends’ Central means some other student can have this experience. I don’t know where you can give a dollar, other than to some kind of education, that meets those criteria.
