Stephanie Koenig ’70

Stephanie Koenig ’70 “Stephanie was always—from the moment I met her at the age of 6 until she graduated from Friends’ Central in 1970—doing two things: practicing the piano and saving money for college. She was the light and life of her parents, Helen and Jack. They supported her, both on and off campus, and were well-known regulars on the sidelines at any hockey match! Right from the start, Stephanie loved Friends’ Central. She never missed a day of school in 12 years! (Now, honestly, how many of us can say that?!) She went on to earn a master’s degree in teaching from the University of Delaware, but the greater part of her heart was always with FCS. It truly was her second home. Neither Stephanie (nor I!) were the best of academics—largely, we claimed, due to the unusually large number of geniuses in our class! But Stephanie was a dogged learner. Friends’ Central nurtured her intellect, and she appreciated this all her life. We will miss her. We, her classmates and FCS friends, will carry her memory with us. Ever true to Friends Central, Stephanie remembered the School with a generous donation in her will—a final ‘thank you’ to the school she had loved so well for more than 60 years.”

—Sherry McVickar, on behalf of the Class of 1970
